I need to upgrade a ZD3025 from 9.0 all the way up to 9.7

I am awaiting for our official support to be processed but wanted to factor in the amount of upgrades I would need to do and reboots for our change window.

Thanks

This kb article will give you some idea of the path

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/an...

Looks like you can go from 9.4.3.0.22 to 9.6.2.013 to 9.7

but getting to 9.4.3 looks interesting.

Release notes for 9.6

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/do...

has a nice purple panel with this info:
=======
There is a known issue with upgrading directly from a 9.4 build earlier than
9.4.3. Therefore, if you are running an earlier version (including 9.4.0.0.110),
you must first upgrade to 9.4.3 before upgrading to 9.6.2.0.13. (ID ZF-1328,
ZF-2265, ZF-2468, ZF-2626)
=======

Think you do need to get tech support onboard before attempting this.

...and going further back

Officially supported 9.4.3 upgrade paths:
9.3.2.0.11 to 9.4.3.0.12

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/do...

===========
Official 9.3 upgrade path:
9.1.2.0.8 and later to 9.3.2.0.3
9.2.0.0.138 and later to 9.3.2.0.3
9.3.0.0.87 and later to 9.3.2.0.3

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/do...

==========

and to get you up to 9.1.2...

"Only ZoneDirector 1000 and ZoneDirector 3000 with firmware versions 8.2.2, 8.4 and 9.0 can be
upgraded to this release. Upgrading from any other firmware versions might result in loss of
configuration settings"

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/do...
==========

So you possibly have several upgrades to perform.
Read those release notes and check the upgrade paths carefully.
Again coming from such a distant ZD version (9.0?) you would be wise to talk to tech support first.

Hope the detective work has at least woken you up!

Wow - going to be an interesting evening!

And I assume through all of this process that every AP has to upgrade along the way - this could take quite a long time.

My support starts next month so I am sure to get the official answer then

When doing multiple upgrades, its probably a good idea to disconnect the AP's until you are on the final release. APs don't care about large version gaps and will happily upgrade to the final version.

Thanks Keith, however we have nearly 50 spread across the UK and it's going to be quite a challenge to disconnect them all. I will just let them do their thing, sounds like they are quite robust.

I meant take the ZD off the network. When the upgrade is complete - reconnect and the AP's will re-discover the controller, and get their upgrade. This will be especially useful when your network is spread out as it will avoid long delays between upgrades while the AP's get theirs.

Ahh - that's a great idea - will certainly do that.

As background addendum: a recent Q & A highlights why the temptation to jump from say 9.0 to 9.7 in one upgrade would be a bad idea (assuming it didn't just produce a brick).
