Interruption during call soft phone wifi

Hi all!

we use AP 7363. This ap is managed by ZD1100.
Power signal is high, no throughput trouble.
We use a soft phone, we notice several interruption during the communication.
We try the same thing in the same room on same network with other wifi AP and there is no problem. No interruption during call.

Same issue with a computer connected in wifi.

Sometimes we have high ping latency.
With a wired client device connected on this network no ping latency issue.

We try several mobile phone, computer and AP (zf7363) but same issue. zf7363 is installed in other location same issue.
We tried to adjust different parameters like TOS, CAC... but no results.

Thanks.
Alex

Not enough information... RF interference? Try ZD version 9.4.3.0.12 or 9.5.0.0.156.
Or wait for 9.5 MR3, or 9.6 MR1 which may have fixes for VoIP issues (ER-674, ER-730, ER-862).

It is a new building, no other wifi detected, not a lot of activity for the moment. No machine thatcould bring interference... With Inssider the graph is good and stable. We run 9.5.1.0 build 50. OK we will try 9.6.
Thanks

Thanks for your reply.

We've just tried the last version 9.6 but we still have the same issues.
And we don't think it's due to RF interference because we've also tried another AP (different brand) in the same place, with the same network topology and we don't notice any interruption during a soft phone communication.

We're currently troubleshooting VoIP drop-outs and support recommended the following.

You can try 9.4 Mr3. if issue persist in 9.4 mr3 please try 9.5 Mr2 as it has polycom voip fixes.

Once you load 9.5 Mr2, please apply below recommended settings too.

1 ) Do not tunnel WLAN back to ZoneDirector.

2) Do not use OFDM-only, or set bss-minrate higher than 2

3 ) Use dedicated VLAN for Vocera, don't mix with Data traffic.

4 ) Disable directed multicast on the Vocera WLAN.

ruckus> enable
ruckus# config
ruckus(config)#
ruckus(config)# wlan
The WLAN service 'voip-wlan-name' has been loaded. To save the WLAN service, type 'end' or 'exit'.

ruckus(config-wlan)# no qos directed-multicast
ruckus(config-wlan)# qos directed-threshold 0

with 'end' and 'end' to save changes and exit from config mode.

Thanks for your reply and advice.

We've already try 9.4 MR3 and 9.5 MR2 versions but we still have the same issues. So we've also tried 9.6 MR1.
We applied the recommended settings (no tunnel WLAN, OFDM-only disabled, bss-minrate = 5.5 Mbps, dedicaded voice vlan, directed multicast disabled) and we noticed an improvement but still have some interruption during soft phone calls.

We also noticed that interruptions could be due to backgrounds scannings, so we disabled it for the voice WLAN.

So to resume, we have indubitably better communication than before but still have some interruption during softphone calls.

If somebody has any other ideas...
Thanks in advance !

I've opened a case for you with our support team. You should have an email with the details. If you can add the serial number of the device via the link provided in the email as well as information about the softphone client being used that will help get things started. Uploading supportinfo and zd debug to the case will help even more.

We've already opened a case with all the usefull informations (serial number, supportinfo, debug...) : ID 00096940. But we didn't receive any usefull answer yet.
Concerning the softphone, we use Accession Communicator developped by Metaswitch.

Thx - I've deleted the dupe (couldn't find anything under your forum login..) and I'll see if I can get the escalation team to look at your existing case.

For additional information, we have the same issues with Skype from phone to phone, in a dedicated VLAN and WLAN with the suggested settings above, ZD version 9.6. The communication with skype degrade slowly until we have no audio signal anymore.

We also noticed when the audio signal is strongly degraded, a reconnection of the phone to the wifi improves the quality of the communication until the interruptions restart again few minutes later...

If somebody has any idea, we begin to go blank !

If you can - given the AP's that you have installed (which may have minimum software version requirements) - try a downgrade to 9.4.3. I hate to offer these "shot in the dark" recommendations and especially a downgrade, but there was a kernel change in 9.5 that seems to have impacted some VOIP installations. Our escalation team is investigating that issue.

We've downgraded only one AP in 9.4.3 version. Then, we've put it in our network configuration in stand alone mode but we still have the same issues...
Thanks for your investigation.

This issue is likely related to the issue here, which is currently being investigated by Ruckus and SpectraLink. Hoping that 9.5MR3 is going to make all the difference. Watch this space.

The topic of this discussion was for Soft-Phone, or an application running on a PC
which cannot necessarily be identified as VoIP. This will result in QoS placing the
traffic in the Background/Best Effort queue, where packets are most likely to be
dropped in favor of higher priority packets.

A method of increasing the depth of the Background/Best Effort queue may be the
solution you're looking for. You can configure all APs on your ZoneDirector to use
deeper Background/Best Effort queue with a ZD CLI command, executed from
debug mode:

remote_ap_cli -A "(set mq wifi0 qtime 2000 2000 4000 400)"

Im currently having voip(savant intercom server) issue with drop calls and zones disappearing. I removed any rf interference that we were having. When i ping ip addresses im having a high latency but also fluctuates. According to Savant for calls not to drop my latency needs to be less than 30ms. Please help
