Ruckus branded software on Brocade branded ICX 7xxx hardware?

It's such a long story about why, but I have a pair or Brocade ICX 7450-24 switches that were never deployed that I'm just rolling out now. I'd love to update the firmware first, but it appears Ruckus has taken over Brocade. Show version provides, among other things:  SW: Version 08.0.20T213. So that number seems like the software version, and it appears to be a few minor versions behind 2021 versions.

Question is: does anyone know if Ruckus branded software images are compatible with Brocade branded hardware?

Hi Justin,

I am not sure about old hardware that is why i am saying to go with 8030u.

But if you want to upgrade and can certainly try it.

8030 to 8080e non-UFI to 89090j UFI.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks to everyone, but special shout out to you Hasim. That 08030u update from May 2020 seems to have gone smoothly straight from the factory 08020t. Nice. This version has support for NTP and TLS 1.2 and probably a bunch of other stuff I haven't touched yet, which is nice. Good to be updated to the current decade, at the very least - d.

I have a 7450-48P that is about 4 years old that has the brocade logo on it and I am running the latest ruckus software on it. You. May have to upgrade to .60 then .80 before going to .90 and above.

Yes.   If you download the software for the ICX 7450 forum Ruckus, that will run fine on your Brocade ICX 7450.   In fact some of their switches say Ruckus and. To add on the same switch on different stickers

Hi rdkb_information_services

Hope you are doing Great!!!

For the ICXs it is the same Hardware as Brocade but now newer generations,

You should be able to try the latest 8030u code.

Hope this helps.

The person above is correct:

"May have to upgrade to .60 then .80 before going to .90 and above. "

The ICX 7450 supports a UFI image

We have old hardware...  Says Brocade and it is running 08.0.90x, where I cannot remember what the specific version is....  have not upgraded it since COVID-19 began.

Hi Paul,

The ICX7450 is a current switch in the Ruckus product line: https://www.commscope.com/product-type/enterprise-networking/ethernet-switches/icx7450/

The platform will support the latest FastIron versions found here: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/software?filter=106#sort=relevancy&f:@commonproducts=[ICX%207450]

However, as mentioned above by Justin; you will need to upgrade in steps as your switches currently have very old software. Please pay close attention to the release notes on the 'Documents' tab on the Ruckus support site at the link above.

Hope that helps,
Darrel.

OK, excellent. Thanks to everyone who contributed these excellent thoughts.

It's all very encouraging, not just for this small project, but also for a larger rollout of APs, core and campus switching that I have on the slate for 2021. Ruckus is on my short list to replace an assorted motley crew of other equipment, so it's a good sign that there's a vibrant community of end users and staff who are willing to help out. And that the product models and support seem to be stable over time.

Hi Dale,

Great to hear you're involved in projects to replace old equipment and are looking at Ruckus to provide new and improved solutions.

I would highly recommend you contact a local Ruckus partner as they can offer you great service and support and also loop you in directly with the Systems Engineering team within Ruckus itself (of which, I'm a proud member).  A Ruckus SE's focus is to help our partners and their customers to fully understand the features and benefits of the Ruckus product-range and eco-system and how we can help you win even more business!

Here's the Ruckus partner locator: https://extapps.commscope.com/howtobuy/RuckusChannelPartner

All the best,
Darrel.
