Hi rock-us,

Do exactly what you did with VLAN ID 51. Assuming you are trying to connect to WLAN1 (VLAN ID=11), apply this VLAN to port 1 (tagged) and port 2(untagged).

Now the management of AP becomes a problem. For that, connect one of the 2925’s LAN ports directly to DHCP server’s network.

ok. I connect the 2925 to a switch which has a vlan then the switch was connected to the dhcp server. The 2925 can get an IP from the dhcp server. Then I connect my laptop to 2925 LAN port and I can also get IP from the dhcp server. But I f i connect my laptop to the 2925 wirelessly, I cannot get an IP from the dhcp. This is the set-up that I would like to do. Can you help me with this one?

Hi rock-us,

Maybe the reason why you can’t get an Ip address from the DHCP server when you are connected via wireless is unmatched VLAN. I think in the example above, try to assign the 2 port of the switch which is connected to the WAN port of the AP and to the DHCP to VLAN11 to match the VLAN assigned to Hotspot1 SSID. After doing that, associate your laptop to hotspot1.

I think it should work.

Hi,

2925 is able to get an IP address from the DHCP server. But the laptop connected to one of the LAN ports is not able to get any IP, that is what you meant? You also want to connect a laptop wirelessly to the network, is that correct?

by following the procedure that you gave I can able to get an IP from the dhcp server but I still need to connect the pc/laptop directly to one of the 2925’s LAN port. how about connecting the pc/laptop wirelessly to the 2925, do you have any working set-up?

Hi Christian,

By merely connecting to one of the ZF2925’s LAN ports you will not get any IP address assigned to your laptop. You have connect 2925’s WAN port to a 802.1q switch. You may ask why? As you may be aware of all WLAN VLANs and management VLAN in 2925 are tagged. On the 802.1q switch you have to configure two of its ports to be on the same VLAN. Here is how the connections should be: 1. First port of the switch goes to 2925’s WAN port. VLAN ID = 51, tagging = Yes. 2. Second port of the switch goes to network (for DHCP address). VLAN ID = 51, tagging = No (access port).

There is no router functionality in 2925 all ports are bridged. For that reason you need an external DHCP server.

But what do you mean by VLAN tagging is not needed to connect to LAN ports.

Also, the reason why I ask this is that if i have no 802.1q switch, I wonder if I can still use the 2925 hotspot.

As you have said, LAN port is in the same VLAN of hotspot1 which is VLAN11, so when I connect my internet to the LAN port, and I associated my laptop to hotspot1 SSID, it it is logical that it should work. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Christian,

LAN ports belong to VLAN11 same as the Hotspot1 WLAN. But VLAN tagging is not needed to connect to LAN ports.

Can anybody knows what is the VLAN assignment of the 4 LAN port of 2925 hotspot.

Hotspot1 = VLAN 11 Hotspot2 = VLAN 21 Hotspot3 = VLAN 31 Hotspot4 = VLAN 41 Management = VLAN 51 LAN port = VLAN ???? WAN port = VLAN trunk (am I right)
