Hi there, I just got the MF2900/MF2501 system so I can stream multimedia content from my machines in the home office to the network media player in the living room.

I am trying to connect the 2900 to my router using one of the available ports, then connect the 2500 into the network player (AvelLink). I cannot seem to get any connections going at all between the 290 and 2501 and wondered if anyone could help.

I have tried setting the 2900 & 2501 to obtain IP address automatically (figuring the router would handle that) and have also used the default IP addresses. I can see the 2900 on my wireless networks list and can connect using the laptop (via both centrino and the Belkin USB adapter I tested against).

On the network player, I have tried using automatic and manual settings with no luck.

I am wondering if it can be anything to do with my router’s IP range being set to 192.168.11.xxx instead of the default 1.xxx.

Right now, I have reset the units to the default configuration and have powered them down. I have not yet re-run the auto-provision function, I figure I will do that once the 2900 is set up correctly.

Also, can I ask one other question, if I enable WEP on the 2900, then auto provision, will the 2501 automatically use the correct WEP key or do I have to manually change things? I assume it does, but it’s best to be sure.

Thanks in advance

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

If you perform auto provisioning the WEP key settings will be transfered to 2501, there is no need to manually type in the keys. Try connecting a laptop to 2501 using a cable to see if you are getting any IP address. It should get 192.168.11.x IP address. If this works your network player should also work.

Best

Thanks csannedhi.

How long should the autoprovision take? Looking at the “before you begin” sheett it seems to show 30 seconds, but so far I have been watching the lights flash for almost 10 minutes now. 3 of the 4 status lights are solid, the antenna light is flashing and the dome is flashing green. Is this normal or is something awry?

The steps followed so far are;

connect 2900 to laptop via cable (laptop set to 192.168.0.100)

connect to 2900 control panel (192.168.0.1)

Configuration>wireless Set WEP key set shared key – default 2 access control disable reboot

back into control panel

configuration>System Obtain IP address automatically reboot

logout

disconnect from laptop

power down 2900 connect 2900 – 2501 using ethernet cable power on both units

dome lights flash (and keep on flashing)

Thanks again. Stephen

OK, I have everything connected. I manually edited all the settings for the two units and somehow got it working. no idea what but I have full connectivity.

Thanks for the help, it was much appreciated
