Hi tantal,

Have you tried to factory reset your MF2900 by press and hold the reset button with a pointed object such as an end of a paper clip for about 8 seconds? I would suggest that you factory reset MF2501 as well and auto provision 2501 by connecting an Ethernet cable to the MF2900 for about 30 seconds.

Kind Regards,

subnets problem replied by csannedhi @ Tue, 15 Apr 2008 16:02:55 -0000

2501 does not have WDS support. What that means is you can not have multiple clients directly connected to its Ethernet port using a hub or switch.
In your setup the Netgear ROUTER is handing out IP addresses and also letting multiple clients connect to the network. There is no alternative to this if you have 2501.

If you have a 2111 then it is a different story. You can have multiple clients connected and they all receive IP address from the main office network. You don’t need another Netgear router in the 2nd office any more.

subnets problem replied by flobadob @ Fri, 11 Apr 2008 10:44:01 -0000

We have 2 small offices, one on each side of a carpark. I can connect the offices using a 2900 in the main office and a 2501 in the 2nd office if the 2nd office is on a different subnet, but I would like both offices to be on the same subnet. My setup is like this:

Main office…
Netgear ADSL Modem Router on 192.168.0.1
Ruckus 2900 on 192.168.0.4

2nd Office…
Ruckus 2501 on 192.168.0.5
Netgear ADSL Modem Router with LAN configured for 192.168.2.x

The cable from the ruckus to the netgear in the 2nd office is plugged into the internet port. It is set up as a DHCP server.

What I want is to have everything on 192.168.0.x is this possible? I have tried just using a switch in the 2nd office but I tend to only get one PC working at a time in this situation. I thought the 2900/2501 would act like a transparent bridge between 2 sites or have I set it up wrongly?

hello,
i’m using the mf2900 to connect from my router to my PVR with a network connection to stream videos across the network. works fine!
i also have a slingbox to stream TV signal over the home network and internet.
in order to use the same connection to the internet i have connected the mf2500 wit a switch (netgear) and the connect my PVR and the slingbox as well to the switch.
this will not work – i can only get one device working (either/or) not both at the same time.
my question: does the mf2500 not work on a switch with several devices and if so what would be the solution.

Just a quick check…what is the LED status on 2900 and 2501? If they are connected to each other, the third LED on each of them should be green. When passing data, the third LED (wireless antenna icon) should be flashing green.

Another check, try to replace the Snazio Media Player with a PC, can you access Internet?

It shouldn’t be the case. Can you see your MAC as one of the connected clients on the 2900? What is the signal strength on the MAC (it should be excellent if they are sitting next to each other)?
Have you tried to reboot the 2900 to see if it would behave differently?

I have set up the MF2900 as a wireless router which my desktop can connect to wirelessly to access the internet. I am using a MF2501 in the living room to boost the signal so I can stream video from the desktop to the TV via a Snazio 1350 media player.

The snazio says ‘connection very good’ so I know that it is picking up a wireless signal but doesnt seem able to ‘see’ any files on the desktop – it says something about trying to ‘wake up’ the PC – but it is fully awake at this point. Is there anything I need to do with the MF2900 to allow other devices access to my desktop to stream files?

The fact that the desktop can access the internet through the MF2900 suggests that the MF2900 is working correctly. I turned off all firewalls, spyware and even the virus protection temporarily to see if they were causing the problem but this didnt solve the problem.

Any help greatly appreciated!

connect 2900 to laptop via cable (laptop set to 192.168.0.100)

connect to 2900 control panel (192.168.0.1)

Configuration>wireless
Set WEP key
set shared key – default 2
access control disable
reboot

back into control panel

configuration>System
Obtain IP address automatically
reboot

logout

disconnect from laptop

power down 2900
connect 2900 – 2501 using ethernet cable
power on both units

dome lights flash (and keep on flashing)

Thanks again.

Connecting with Linksys router replied by csannedhi @ Wed, 11 Apr 2007 13:11:32 -0000

Hi Stephen,

If you perform auto provisioning the WEP key settings will be transfered to 2501, there is no need to manually type in the keys. Try connecting a laptop to 2501 using a cable to see if you are getting any IP address. It should get 192.168.11.x IP address. If this works your network player should also work.

Best

Connecting with Linksys router replied by Franz29 @ Wed, 11 Apr 2007 11:49:57 -0000

Hi there,
I just got the MF2900/MF2501 system so I can stream multimedia content from my machines in the home office to the network media player in the living room.

I am trying to connect the 2900 to my router using one of the available ports, then connect the 2500 into the network player (AvelLink). I cannot seem to get any connections going at all between the 290 and 2501 and wondered if anyone could help.

I have tried setting the 2900 & 2501 to obtain IP address automatically (figuring the router would handle that) and have also used the default IP addresses. I can see the 2900 on my wireless networks list and can connect using the laptop (via both centrino and the Belkin USB adapter I tested against).

On the network player, I have tried using automatic and manual settings with no luck.

I am wondering if it can be anything to do with my router’s IP range being set to 192.168.11.xxx instead of the default 1.xxx.

Right now, I have reset the units to the default configuration and have powered them down. I have not yet re-run the auto-provision function, I figure I will do that once the 2900 is set up correctly.

Also, can I ask one other question, if I enable WEP on the 2900, then auto provision, will the 2501 automatically use the correct WEP key or do I have to manually change things? I assume it does, but it’s best to be sure.

Thanks in advance

Stephen

… it really worked!!! I don’t know what caused the problem but I have successfully established the IPTV connection again. :)

Thank You very much for fast reply!

Best regards,

Hello Gregor,

What I can suggest is that you factory reset your 2501 and auto-provision it with the 2900. To factory reset the 2501, with the unit powered on, insert a paper clip into the reset button on the back of the device, and hold for 8 seconds. To auto provision, connect an Ethernet cable directly between 2900 and 2501. The auto provisioning will take about 30 seconds. When auto provisioning is done, the Dome Light will be off. After auto provision, reboot the 2501.

Kind Regards,
